The Whimbrel

Description

Wool and Wire / 17 inches high

This Whimbrel was created for The Museum of Early Trades and Crafts in Madison NJ for a Bird and Decoy exhibit. It is common in marshes, mudflats and shores and is smaller than its cousin, the Long Billed Curlew. In good light its back appears gray. It has a lighter chest than back and is mostly mottled in browns. It has distinct striping on the crown and its eyes are accented like those of an ancient Egyptian queen. Its tail is barred and this one is just a bit larger than real life.
